Here I go again with the chickens. Go figure. This time I went big! I loved the shadows of this flock that were taking a last swing through the yard right before sunset to find some snackage. The backlighting was just too cool.

A commission from a photo of some kids, obviously taken around Halloween, who are now in there teens. I find it so enjoyable on a commission like this to see the subjects as they are today. Correspondence with their Mom allowed me to see them as they have matured. Better yet, Lauren, the little girl in the photo was there when I delivered the painting. The youngster I had become accustomed to through the painting process had become a beautiful teenager.

I’ve always liked chickens. I know, seems a little odd. I think it came from when I was a kid and my mother always had bantams running around the farm yard. It was fun searching for their nests, waiting for them to hatch and mamma shielding them under her wings. As they grew the colors and markings emerged to their own personalities. Besides, I think they are hilarious. This one looks like there is definitely something going on behind him and he’s a bit confused.
